The Christmas Break Starts In January – Says Divorce-online

Divorce week 2014 – First week in January to see record divorces?

The number of divorces in the UK may sky rocket in 2014 if the second half of 2013 is anything to go by, according to one online divorce firm who saw a 36% increase in couples wanting divorces in the second half of the year, compared to 2012.
The first week in January is the busiest time of year for divorce lawyers, so much so, the week has been dubbed “divorce week” by the media for a number of years and Divorce-Online.Co.UK are expecting a manic January if their statistics continue to show the same upward trend.

The improving economy, rising house prices and the Help To Buy Scheme are all helping couples to part their ways, many of whom have been stuck together in miserable relationships because of the recession.

Even December, which is traditionally the quietest month of the year has been exceptionally busy

Mark Keenan, Managing Director of Divorce-online says “Divorce week as it has come to be known is going to be seriously busy, there is pent up demand that has been released by the recent upturn in the economy and we are seeing an increase in people splitting because they can now afford to do so.”

The long recession artificially kept the divorce rate down as people were forced to stay together, but they are now able to go their separate ways and 2014 will be the year that the divorce rate rises in my opinion and I have seen over 20 years worth of divorce weeks. I have been wrong before but not this time”.
